We must aspire to awaken, or we will simply keep ourselves trapped in cyclic existence, suffering, flailing madly out of control for all eternity. We shouldn’t wait until everything is perfect before we begin our Spiritual Practice. Begin now, where you are, without abandoning anything. What’s most important is to simply aspire to awaken, do whatever you need to do, and never give up—not ever.

Life is very short. Don’t waste it on assumed beliefs or untested fairy tails. Really delve into reality. Look within your heart and mind. We all have everything we need to awaken, it’s already there in your heart center, in that bright reality we already possess. To unlock that, to discover just what that is, you will need a little assistance, a little nudge here and there. Seek teachers, spiritual friends and teachings that can help. Generate great compassion for yourself and others. Really examine this world around you.

Science and Spiritual Practice must both come together. If you wish to discover reality, you must be ready to ask many questions and to be ready to discard what is not useful. Our inquiry begins by simply looking at mind. We need to see clearly just what is going on here, not simply take someone’s word for anything.

Hopefully, the dog suddenly barking in the background did not become an obstacle for you today. Life, as well as Spiritual Practice, is like this. Things happen that are not always convenient or the way we want them to be. Life gets in the way sometimes. What we should do is to simply continue as before, with this genuine precious aspiration to awaken, no matter what happens. Don’t ever give up.

Your aspiration to awaken can be taken with you from lifetime to lifetime. It is the most precious thing that you can ever possess. Treat that with great care.

Blessings in Light,

Lama Robert
