Many people see the spiritual path as separate from the common good. But if you take 100 people, all of them devoting their time to awaken, you got 100 people unable to hurt or bother someone else. But if you got 100 "social activists", you have 100 individual mental images of what society should be, and unending trouble, even if they´re well-intentioned.
